  Meet The AET 

  Dr. Roger Hanagriff
AET Product Development, Web Design, Educational Outreach & Business Planning
Roger is currently a faculty member at Texas A&M University Kingsville within the department of Agricultural Business. He has more than 15 years experience in academia within program evaluation, agribusiness finance, marketing and management with emphasis on agriculture education. Roger has nearly 10 years combined experience in farm management information, cost analysis and farm accounting. Roger is an avid horseman/trainer and also competes in team roping and calf roping and involved in many aspects of the agricultural industry.

Roger was awarded the state degree in Texas as well as in 2012, he received an Honorary State FFA Degree, both of which are representative of his passion to support the growth and development of agricultural education. His specific academic service target has been to work with agricultural education teachers and their students regarding record keeping and managing Supervised Agricultural Experiences (SAEs). After spending 10 years helping Texas teachers use a variety of record books, there was a glaring need for change. Partnering with his friend/programming guru, Clay Ewell and his former doctoral chair, Dr. Tim Murphy, The AET record keeping program was born. Roger’s goal is to transform the concept of record books to be a tool for all agricultural education students and through their use, be valuable for teachers to promote their program's success.


  Clay Ewell

Clay began scoring FFA contests as a middle school student, helping faculty at Tarleton State University where his dad is a professor in Agricultural Economics. Years later, he attended Texas A&M University and received his degree in Electrical Engineering. Simultaneously, he continued to assist Texas universities and contest-hosting sites to more effectively and timely score FFA Career Development Events (CDEs) through developing an electronic, scan sheet scoring system. Through this innovation, was developed and is now utilized by nearly 20 states across the nation, including being the official scoring system used for National FFA events.

Over the years, Clay has developed and expanded his services to help agricultural education teachers by developing an event registration system, electronic teacher contact directories and mobile apps. His passion is developing solutions for teachers that are both low cost and, more importantly, supportive of aiding teachers' role of helping the youth interested in agricultural education. He is a recipient of Honorary State FFA Degrees from both Arkansas and Texas and collaborates with agricultural universities nation wide to support the growth and development of agricultural education, which is of course the exact mission of AET.


  Dr. Tim Murphy
AET Product Development & Educational Outreach
The Ag Teacher in the crew, Tim taught for eight years in the secondary agriscience classrooms of Missouri, completed his Ph.D., spent two years on the faculty at the University of Idaho, and is completing his 15th year at Texas A&M University. He is Professor and Associate Department Head for Graduate Programs and Research in the Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communications.

Involved in teacher education, Tim focuses on the areas of agricultural mechanics, program evaluation, STEM integration, distance education, and curriculum development. His interest in AET is grounded in his 25 years of experience in High School Agriculture classrooms across the country. His passion is delivering tools teachers can use to help engage students and promote local program success.

Tim spent 10 years as Treasurer of the American Association for Agricultural Education (AAAE). He was named the AAAE Southern Region Outstanding Young Agricultural Educator in 2000, selected as a Teaching Fellow by North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture in 2006, received the AAAE Southern Region Distinguished Research Award in 2007, the AAAE Outstanding Agricultural Educator Award in 2008, and was named a Fellow in the AAAE in 2009. In 2012, Dr. Murphy completed his term as President of the Southern Region, was elected President of the AAAE, and received the Honorary Texas State FFA Degree.


  Gena Hanagriff
AET Billing Supoort & Customer Relations
Gena is a certified agricultural education teacher and previously taught science courses in Texas. She has been awarded a Lone Star Farmer Degree in Texas, State Proficiency degree in Equine and awarded her American Degree. She was active in National FFA’s Work Experience Abroad (WEA) program and traveled to England and Scotland touring their agriculture operations. Gena currently manages Hanagriff Performance Horses and Livestock operation and competes in team roping events.

Gena joined the AET crew to assist in customer billing needs and assist Vanessa with customer support.


  Vanessa Rutherford
Assistant Director of Educational Outreach and Teacher Support
Vanessa graduated from Texas Tech University with a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Agriculture with teacher certification in 2013. After student teaching, she continued her education at Texas A&M University receiving a Master of Science in Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communications in 2014. Her focus while at Texas A&M was online curriculum development for agricultural science teachers working with Instructional Material Services and assisting with the teaching of agricultural science courses. She grew up in South Texas raising show cattle for 10 years and as a result was a S.A.L.E scholarship recipient and was awarded her Lone Star Farmer Degree in Texas. Her passion is agricultural education and being a certified agricultural science teacher, she has an appreciation for the profession. Vanessa specializes in teacher support for AET and is your first point of contact when asking questions.
    Mary Wilson
Part-time Teacher Support and Educational Outreach
Mary spent 29 years in Texas teaching agricultural education and was one of the first teachers to incorporate AET into her classroom and joined AET in 2016 to help teachers do the same.  In her tenure, she assisted students in achieving State Degrees, American FFA Degrees, State winning proficiency awards, winning CDE and LDE teams, District/Area and State FFA officers and State talent teams. Her passion is bringing the 3-circle model into practice, which was important in her program and her strategies are a great addition to AET. Mary also has been awarded the Honorary American FFA Degree, serves on numerous state-level committees, member of the Texas SAE State Committee and also is an adjunct instructor at Sam Houston State University in agricultural science teacher preparation.


  Tyler Wieghat
Wieghat Graphics Owner, AETweb Programmer
Tyler graduated from Texas A&M University in 2009 with a degree in Agricultural Leadership and Development and an emphasis on marketing and communications. During his time at Texas A&M, he worked for the ALEC department as a website programmer and server administrator. During this time, Tyler helped develop several web-based applications for various grant and research projects.

After graduation, Tyler focused his energy on growing Wieghat Graphics and becoming a premiere website agency for the agriculture industry. Through a partnership with The AET, Tyler runs and develops the AETweb chapter website system which is available to thousands of FFA chapters nationwide.


  Laurie Wieghat

Laurie graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in Advertising, minor in Communication Studies. While at Texas Tech, she spent many long days and late nights consuming everything she could about marketing, social media, consumer trends, design and all things branding-related. Not a whole lot has changed; However, since graduating, she joined Wieghat Graphics and brought creativity to a new level.
